The globally recognised best practice for methodology in IT service management, ITIL, is evolving with the new ITIL 4.  ITIL 4 will support individuals and organisations to navigate through the fourth industrial revolution. The emphasis will be on the business and technology world, how it works today, and how it will work in the future with Agile, DevOps and digital transformation.

With new ways of working and emerging practices, the ITIL 4 will provide an end-to-end IT/digital operating model. This model will cover the full delivery (and sustaining) of tech-enabled products and services, with guidance on how it interfaces with, and even leads, the wider business strategy.

The ITIL 4 certification scheme comprises of the following levels:

  • ITIL Foundation
  • ITIL Specialist modules (3)
  • ITIL Strategist
  • ITIL Leader
  • ITIL Master

One of the most distinctive changes to the ITIL 4 is that it is now formed by two different designation streams. The ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) and ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL).

Are you ITIL v3 Foundation certified?

If you are ITIL v3 Foundation certified, the next step is to take ITIL 4 Foundation in order to be able to transition to the new scheme.

Due to the extent of new material in the ITIL 4 foundation, you will need to take a new exam to assess the knowledge and understanding of the new training.

Are you already on your ITIL journey for intermediate or practitioner level?

If you have started collection v3 credits, then it is in your interest to continue to do so for an easy transition into ITIL 4.  Once you have reached 17 credits, you will be eligible to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module and gain the ITIL Managing Professional designation.

You will no longer need to take Managing Across the Lifecycle in addition to this.

Already an ITIL v3 Expert?

ITIL Experts can take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module to achieve the ITIL Managing Professional designation.

After achieving the ITIL Managing Professional designation, if you’re interested in pursuing the ITIL Strategic Leader stream, you would only need to complete the ITIL Leader Digital & Strategy module.

Completion of both streams means you are eligible to move towards ITIL Master.
